Energy Conservation

After a long road of recovering from burnout I make sure that I’m conserving and managing my energy so that I can be my best self. This is not easy to do as someone who loves to have a full calendar and is almost always on the go. There are definitely times when I’m humbled with a rude reminder that my energy is not limitless.

Looking back to this time last year (spring 2023) when I was about to enter my first full season fishing lobster, I wasn’t sure if I would be able to get through the days. I was working with a wellness coach, Gineen, so that I could enter into this new adventure without putting my health through more damage.

It’s been a long road but I’ve learned so much! I am more confident setting boundaries around my wellness because I know what I need to do in order to feel good.

I recently spent a week in Florida for a family vacation where I needed to put these practices into action!

A few things I did for my wellness on vacation were:

  • Daily solo walks with a podcast or music (except on park days!)

  • Workouts at the gym when my body felt up to it

  • Limited alcohol until after supper (or not at all some days)

  • Focused on water intake and electrolytes

  • Took my vitamins

  • Rested when I needed to (quiet time or naps in my room)

For some people this would feel like a very restrictive vacation but for me it was exactly what I needed to enjoy myself, connect with family and manage my energy at the same time.

It’s not always easy to walk this path but it’s (pretty much) always worth it.

As someone who travels a lot of the year I can’t justify abandoning my healthy habits every time I’m away. I know that approach won’t support my health and my goals. I’m a work in progress and continue to learn about how to help myself.

Until next time,

JA
